"Sometimes," Ben asked, that knife-sharp autumn cold cutting red blossoms into his cheeks as they walked, "do you ever wonder, sometimes, if there's anything else out there?"
"No," Anna lied, her eyes cast downwards. "I don't."
Because what point was there in wondering? What point was there in straying off of the sidewalk, away from those neat black lines in the pavement, out of the world she knew so well? What point was there in getting lost?
