The main character of Drifting to Insanity is getting a page, and she's sharing it with the voice inside her head.
And yes. I just confirmed that the main character of DtI is a female.
"The poor dragon that wanders the land in search of peace. She carries a larger burden than any other living thing on the planet, and will never have even a brief moment of freedom from it."
Nova was originally just like any other dragon, with the exception of having animus powers. Nova had always been told to avoid using her magic too much, but her lack of self-control led her into a world that is much worse than anything that she could have ever imagined.
Nova is a NightWing. At first glance, she appears completely normal. Beyond her animus magic, Nova is physically similar to any other NightWing. However, her overuse of animus magic has left Nova unstable, causing her to zone out, hallucinate, or have a panic attack. Nova does her best to maintain good morals and act as "normal" as she can, but the voice inside her head, Seda, constantly leads her away from the light, and has more control over Nova than Nova has herself.
Nova's animus magic manifested itself into Seda, the voice inside Nova's mind. Because of this, Nova is capable of having a normal conversation, aside from occasionally zoning out. However, Nova is extremely cautious, not allowing any dragon that she has not met to come near her, out of fear that Seda would manifest and injure them. Because of this, Nova has very few dragons that she can count on.
“The Voice, Seda, is the single most terrifying manifestation of animus magic that has ever plagued dragonkind, and there is absolutely nothing that can be done to stop it.”
Seda, more commonly known as “The Voice,” is the sentient manifestation of Nova’s animus magic. Seda first appeared within Nova’s mind as a faint whisper. However, Nova fleeing her family allowed Seda’s influence to grow, and Seda soon existed as its own separate entity. Using Nova’s magic as an anchor, Seda was then able to do what was previously thought to be impossible:
Give the corruption of one’s mind its own physical body.
“The voice is not natural. It is as if one took the form of a dragon and twisted it in cruel ways, then drained all color from its body, leaving nothing but the dark silhouette of its body behind.”
“If you are ever forced to stand in front of this monster, then it is advised that you stand still, make no noise, and pray that it will give you the gift of mercy.”
“If you do, however, have a conflict with The Voice, go for its host. The Voice lives off of its host’s magic, so interrupting this magic may give you a brief moment to escape.”
Skills and Powers
“But be wary. The Voice thrives off of its host’s magic, and at any sign of hostility, it will not hesitate to destroy anything in its path.”
